How my students shaped me…
In August 1983, I conducted my first lecture on ‘Engineering Drawing’ at SSBT’s College of Engineering and Technology, Jalgaon.
From the very beginning, I decided not to use any books or notes in the classroom. I was a little tense during the lecture and not in my usual conduct. After 45 minutes, when the bell finally rang, I let out a sigh of relief. At the same time, I could feel the sense of triumph .
The classroom was filled with both boys and girls, and I could see the respect in their eyes. This made me incredibly joyful and I derived immense satisfaction from the experience. From that day onward, I developed the habit of looking into the eyes of my students. I draw energy and enthusiasm from their sparkling eyes ! This is the greatest gift from my students . It has served as a stepping stone in shaping my identity as a teacher!
Recently, one of my well-wishers, who is a specialised doctor and also an astrologer, offered a lovely compliment about my eyes which truely warmed my heart . It reminded me the poem ‘Let Not The Eyes Become Old‘ where I reflect on the beauty and power of the eyes.
I often say that you become a good teacher, if your students are good, a good speaker, if your listeners are good and a good writer, if your readers are good. I have been fortunate to have wonderful students; and my friends tell that I speak well. Now, with your support, I am on my way to becoming a good writer!
